KAOKOLAND TAPE PROJECT

The Kaokoland Tape Project started in May 1998.

Vision:

To place hand-wind/solar tape players in about 200 villages. At the moment we have about 100 Messengers. We give them to contact persons in villages where we are planting churches. As many of the people are illiterate these Messengers really help a lot to give them some Bible knowledge and it enables them to grow spiritually. In some villages we’ve found that the children can recite the words that go with the flipcharts from memory.

The Messenger Tape player that we use. It works by hand-cranking it and it can also be used with a 6 volt solar panel – with a carry bag and solar panel they cost about N$400 (US$35) for a set.

The Good News Flipcharts and cassette - these pictures teach the new converts the basics about the Old and New Testaments and how to live as a Christian.

Method:

We preach in villages, when we find a suitable contact person we supply him/her with a Messenger Tape Player, solar cell, Good News flip chart & cassette, about 6 other cassettes containing gospel songs, New Testament, church services and teachings in Herero. We try to visit each village at least once a month and then change the cassettes, teach the leader, preach, pray for the sick and give old clothes or maize.

Future Vision:

With God's help we want to help to establish a life-giving church in every village in our region. We want to see the local people reach out to other people groups in countries like Angola. We are busy producing discipleship material. It will be in the form of pictures with teachings on the back that are also recorded onto cassette. Each village will then go through a discipleship course. We want to eventually train the contact person to be the local pastor, teacher or evangelist. Villages near to each other will share a teacher/evangelist/prophet. The churches that are established in this way in every village in our area will all be interdependent but each one will have its own leaders, name, etc. We at OCCC in Opuwo will just give teaching and help where we can and are needed.

Most needed:

PRAYER Please pray for the spiritual and physical protection and growth of all the contact persons and for the outreaches we have each month to visit them and give them new teaching cassettes. To receive regular prayer and praise letters by email just click here to send us an email.

Second Most needed:

Finances You can sponsor a Messenger Tape Player for a specific village. For US$50 (±R550) we can place a Messenger player, Good News flipcharts, solar panel and about 10 cassettes with the Bible and teachings in the local language at a village. At the moment we can use at least 40 more Messengers. Please help us to help the Himba, Herero and Zemba people who do not have the privilege of being able to read or to attend a church. Many/most villages do not have a church at all.

The time is now!! The people in our area are ripe for salvation now!!

Tomorrow may be too late. Let us take hands and populate heaven.
