Angola
Roads driving from Lubango to Huambo

November 2005 one
of the better stretches of road to travel the 420km from Lubango to Huambo
took us 14 hours of non-stop driving.

The beautiful green
scenery along the road made up for the potholes on the road.

In some places the road is washed
away and we had to take detours.

Along the road these Danger Mines signs reminded us that a
few years ago Angola
was involved in a terrible civil
war.

We were quite surprised to find pine plantations on the way
to Huambo.

With the cool breeze and smell of
pine it felt like being somewhere in Europe.

Many of the bridges were destroyed
during the 30 year civil war temporary metal bridges enabled us to reach
our destination.

Caala is the town just before
you reach Huambo. Gove is a large dam on the Kunene
river.

We drove through a lot of water, one place the water came
over the bonnet of the 4x4.

Huambo at last
driving through the open market area.
